Drawing Session at IOM's Safe Zone in RRC Sofia - Voenna Rampa
Creativity plays a vital role in the healthy development of children, offering them a way to express themselves, process emotions, and explore their imagination. For unaccompanied minors, far from the comfort of their families and homes, this creative outlet becomes even more essential. At the Safe Zone in the Registration and Reception Center (RRC) Sofia – Voenna Rampa, IOM works to create an environment where these children can feel safe, secure, and supported.
To nurture this sense of security, IOM’s social workers, together with a dedicated cultural mediator, recently conducted a drawing session for the minors. As the children sketched and colored, they enjoyed lighthearted and pleasant conversations, fostering a sense of connection and warmth.
Activities like this are particularly important during the cold winter months when outdoor options are limited. Drawing not only provides a meaningful way for the children to spend their time but also supports their psychological well-being by encouraging relaxation, self-expression, and a sense of achievement in completing their artwork.
These activities were implemented within the framework of the projects "Provision of support to asylum seekers in Bulgaria" and "Support for Unaccompanied Minors Accommodated in Safe Zones" funded under the National AMIF Programme 2021-2027
