IOM Bulgaria Participates in European Anti-Trafficking Day Event
On October 17, 2024, IOM Bulgaria, represented by experts Teodora Nikolova and Alexander Gelovski, participated in a briefing hosted by the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Foundation A21 - Bulgaria. The event, held at the Intercontinental Hotel Sofia, was part of the "Walk for Freedom" campaign, marking European Anti-Trafficking Day. IOM Bulgaria’s Head of Office, Mr. Radoslav Stamenkov, also attended the event.
Nikolova and Gelovski highlighted IOM's key role in preventing human trafficking, emphasizing the importance of tailoring prevention campaigns to specific vulnerable groups. They shared insights from IOM’s extensive experience, noting that targeted messaging increases the effectiveness of these campaigns. “Different groups need different approaches,” said Nikolova, “and reaching them with the right message is crucial.”
IOM Bulgaria has a strong history of collaboration with governmental institutions and NGOs, working together to combat trafficking and support victims. The organization continues to implement prevention campaigns and initiatives that raise awareness and offer protection to those at risk.
The event featured public figures such as actors Julian Kostov, Kaloyan Minev, and Christian Makarov from the popular music group "Molec," who joined the cause to raise awareness about human trafficking through cinema and music.
The campaign will culminate in the "Walk for Freedom" on October 19 in cities across Bulgaria, including Sofia, with events designed to engage the public in the fight against human trafficking.
IOM Bulgaria would like to thank the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (NCCTHB) and the A21 Foundation - Bulgaria for organizing this important event. Their commitment to raising awareness and engaging the community in the fight against human trafficking is greatly appreciated. We look forward to continuing our collaboration on this vital issue.
