Listening, Supporting, Empowering: Community Meeting with UAMs in Sofia
A new community meeting was recently organised by IOM Bulgaria at the Safe Zone in RRC Sofia – Voenna Rampa, bringing together unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors and members of the IOM team.
The meeting provided a safe and welcoming space for open conversation, allowing the children to share their experiences and concerns. From everyday life in the Safe Zone to updates on their legal procedures, all topics of importance were on the table. The discussion was both meaningful and light-hearted, fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere.
An IOM cultural mediator played an active role in facilitating the dialogue, helping ensure that the voices of the children were fully heard and understood. This involvement further deepened the trust between the minors and the IOM staff, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the Safe Zone.
These regular gatherings aim to strengthen the sense of community, promote mutual understanding, and empower the children to actively participate in shaping their environment.
This activity was implemented in the framework of the projects "Support for Unaccompanied Minors Accommodated in Safe Zones" and "Support for asylumseekers in Bulgaria" funded by the National Programme of Bulgaria under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027.
