Martenitsi workshop at the Safe Zone in RRC Sofia - Ovcha Kupel
On March 1st, IOM Bulgaria’s social workers and a cultural mediator organized an art workshop for unaccompanied minors (UAMs) at the Safe Zone in RRC Sofia - Ovcha Kupel. The children crafted martenitsi—traditional red and white thread ornaments symbolizing health, happiness, and the arrival of spring.
The martenitsa tradition, deeply rooted in Bulgarian culture, represents renewal and hope. By making and wearing them, the UAMs embraced the spirit of new beginnings, sunshine, and optimism.
At IOM Bulgaria, we believe in fostering cultural integration and emotional well-being. Through activities like this, we bring warmth and a sense of belonging to those in need.
These activities were implemented within the framework of the projects "Provision of support to asylum seekers in Bulgaria" and "Support for Unaccompanied Minors Accommodated in Safe Zones" funded under the National AMIF Programme 2021-2027
