Promoting Physical Activity and Team Spirit: Volleyball Game for Unaccompanied Minors in RRC Sofia - Voenna Rampa

IOM Bulgaria’s social workers at the Safe Zone in the Registration and Reception Center (RRC) Sofia – Voenna Rampa recently organised a volleyball game for the unaccompanied minors accommodated there. Taking advantage of the warm winter sun, the activity encouraged outdoor play, a vital break from the extended indoor periods typical of the season.

The game, lasting over an hour and a half, allowed the children to enhance their physical coordination, learn the rules and strategies of volleyball, and, most importantly, develop teamwork skills. The IOM staff guided them through the principles of collaboration, emphasising the importance of working together to achieve common goals.

Volleyball, like many team sports, offers numerous benefits for young people, including improved physical fitness, social interaction, and stress relief. For unaccompanied minors, such activities create a space to build friendships and confidence while fostering resilience and integration.

The day was filled with energy, laughter, and teamwork, as the children played with enthusiasm for nearly two hours. IOM Bulgaria remains dedicated to initiatives that promote the holistic well-being and development of unaccompanied minors, helping them thrive in their new environments.
