A game of football at RRC Sofia - Ovcha Kupel
Children are vulnerable and that is especially true for ones that have left their homes in search for a better life. IOM Bulgaria works hard for ensuring the wellbeing of unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors in the two Safety zones we manage.
One of the best ways to promote good physical and mental health for children is through practising sports.
The benefits of sports are numerous and can impact lives in profound ways. Team sports participation promotes health and wellbeing, builds confidence, and can help maintain mental health. Being part of a team can build confidence and social skills and allows for the opportunity to bond with others.
In relation to the above, the IOM Bulgaria’s team of social workers at the Safety Zone in RRC Sofia – Ovcha Kupel organized a football match for the unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors accommodated in the Safety Zone. The children enjoyed the game and shared that sport helps them deal with negative emotions and lifts their spirits.
The Safety Zones are managed within the framework of the project “Support for asylum seekers in Bulgaria” and the project „Providing social and psychological support to asylum seekers in Bulgaria“,funded by the National Program of Bulgaria under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-2020.
