Promoting Creativity and Social Connection Through Activities for Unaccompanied Children at IOM Bulgaria’s Safe Zone in RRC Sofia - Voenna Rampa
At IOM Bulgaria’s Safe Zone in the Registration and Reception Centre (RRC) Sofia – Voenna Rampa, the social workers regularly create opportunities for the unaccompanied children accommodated in the zone to participate in a variety of activities that foster creativity, teamwork, and enjoyment.
Recently, the children had the chance to engage in a relaxing yet stimulating jigsaw puzzle activity. Jigsaw puzzles, often underestimated, offer far more than just entertainment. These activities help children enhance their problem-solving skills, promote patience, and encourage focus. As the children pieced together colorful images, they were not only creating a complete picture but also strengthening cognitive abilities like spatial awareness and logical reasoning.
For others, a simple but classic card game was the preferred choice. Card games, known for their simplicity, offer a fun and interactive way to build social bonds. Whether playing with a friend or as part of a larger group, card games encourage communication, turn-taking, and strategic thinking. For the unaccompanied children, these games provide a comforting sense of normalcy and an opportunity to share lighthearted moments with peers.
These activities were implemented within the framework of the project "Support for Unaccompanied Minors Accommodated in Safe Zones" funded under the National AMIF Programme 2021-2027.
