Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Bulgaria, IOM assists the development of national mechanisms to combat and counteract trafficking in human beings and supports victims of trafficking.

“Health and sex education. Communication with adolescents and youth” training.
On April 19 and 20 IOM Bulgaria organized a training on “Health and sex education. Communication with adolescents and youth”. Dr. Mihail Okoliyski, sexologist, psychiatrist and expert in the WHO office in Bulgaria and Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova, Executive Director of the Bulgarian Association for Family Planning (BFPA) were invited as lecturers for the first day.
During the second day Teodora Nikolova, IOM psychologist, and Rohullah Yosufi, IOM cultural mediator, spoke about the traumas and risks of sexual abuse of children and the cultural specifics of communicating with adolescent asylum seekers in Bulgaria on gender issues. Attending the training were representatives of state institutions and legitimate representatives of unaccompanied minors from the National Legal Aid Bureau.
The trainings were carried out within the framework of the project ‘’Strengthening the Capacity of National Institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations in the Field of Asylum’’ The project is funded by the National Program of Bulgaria under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-2020
