Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Bulgaria, IOM assists the development of national mechanisms to combat and counteract trafficking in human beings and supports victims of trafficking.

IOM Bulgaria held two information sessions in Burgas and Ravda on work conditions, social welfare and health insurances, health care, education in Bulgaria
On 27 April 2022 the Info Center for migrants, Sofia organized an info session in Ravda. The meeting was attended by over 40 people legally residing third country nationals, most of them people who are looking for or have received temporary protection.
On 28 April 2022 an information session with migrants was held in Burgas with 30 migrants – from Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan attending the meeting. Ms Maya Sarieva, KNSB coordinator in Burgas and the region attended the meeting and provided information to migrants regarding the activities of the Confederation in local level and the support provided to migrant workers. A moment of silence on The International Worker’s Memorial Day (28 April) was held in tribute of workers who have passed away.
The main topics of the presentations were social and medical insurances and welfare, pension, humanitarian support for displaced people from Ukraine, seeking or having received temporary protection, bilateral agreements in social and healthcare and more. The discussion was moderated by Ms Maria Kasarova, legal expert, designated to the Project. The attendees posed questions regarding the Bulgarian language courses, organized by IOM, within the frame of the integration activities implemented by the Project. Bulgarian language education is very important for migrants as an element of their integration in Bulgaria.
The participants, furthermore, received up-to-date information about open workplaces vacancies, provided by The Regional Employment Agency. The attendees were also provided with practical information on what to do and how to apply for an open vacancy.
This information is provided within the framework of the project "Training and counselling of legal migrants and persons seeking or having received the international protection" funded by the National Program of Bulgaria under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-2020.
