Our Work
Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Bulgaria, IOM assists the development of national mechanisms to combat and counteract trafficking in human beings and supports victims of trafficking.

An IOM-led delegation on a work visit to the Netherlands
A delegation led by IOM Bulgaria visited the Netherlands in the period June 19-22, 2023. The visit was aimed at knowledge sharing and capacity building of IOM staff and government institutions in the field of migration management and returns and was facilitated by IOM The Hague.
High officials of Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees, Migration Directorate and Border police exchanged experience and practices with Dutch Return and Repatriation Service of the Ministry of Justice and Security. The delegation also visited an asylum reception centre in Leiden and administrative detention centre in Rotterdam and got acquainted with the assistance to migrants provided by local communities.
Rotterdam's department of Dutch Police on irregular migration and human trafficking shared the latest trends and challenges with the delegation from Bulgaria.
The visit was funded by National programme of the Republic of Bulgaria and co-funded by AMIF.
