Social circus for the unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors in Sofia
Recognizing the profound importance of physical and mental stimulation for children, especially for unaccompanied migrant kids separated from their homes and families, IOM Bulgaria is committed to providing various entertaining and cultural activities for unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors accommodated in the two Safety Zones in Sofia.
This week, in collaboration with Caritas Sofia, our dedicated team orchestrated a memorable day for the unaccompannied children at the Mini Art Center. The day was brimming with diverse and enjoyable activities, aiming to bring joy and positive experiences to the young ones.
The highlight of the day featured group classes in two circus art rooms, where skilled trainers engaged the children in a series of entertaining exercises. From playful acts with hats, sticks, and juggling to adventurous feats with the unicycle and acrobatics, the children reveled in the excitement.
A special surprise awaited the minors—a breakdancing lesson conducted by a professional break dancer. The kids enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to learn and practice new moves, adding a dynamic element to their day.
While the activities proved both entertaining and physically demanding for the unaccompanied minors, the fatigue from the day filled with exercise was overshadowed by the profound emotional satisfaction they experienced. The smiles on the children's faces reflected the genuine joy derived from the day's events, showcasing the positive impact of such initiatives.
The inspiration drawn from the genuine delight seen in the children's smiles resonated deeply with all those involved in organizing the event. It serves as a testament to the transformative power of creating moments of joy and connection for unaccompanied minors, providing them with not just entertainment but also a sense of normalcy and emotional fulfillment.
This event was organised in the framework of the project, "Support for unaccompanied minors, seeking international protection," funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
